Customised dredger automation

Amoras

AMORAS stands for Antwerp Mechanical Dewatering, Recyling and Application of Sludge. This installation dewaters the sludge that comes from Antwerp’s harbours before it is stored in various locations.

The challenge
For a continuous supply of the sludge to the dewatering installation, the sludge is dumped in a basin. A cutter piston specially designed by Damen dredging plies this basin and ensures the supply of sludge. This cutter piston is entirely electrical and is fed from the quayside by a plug connector. A special control unit also had to be designed for this special cutter.

Result
On the basis of a Rockwell Automation platform, Batenburg JB Systems implemented the automation for controlling the cutter ladder, which is moved to and fro by a hydraulic drive in place of a spud pole.

Successfully upgraded automation of a slitting line, an exemplary project
Batenburg JB Systems successfully migrated the machine within the set conversion period and the subsequent start-up period. The machine complied with the Machinery Directive again and downtimes were reduced thanks to fewer faults.
J-Lay workstation automation
The final result is a flexible and reliable control system for handling the production process (recipe controlled) and controlling a manipulator with 5 interpolating axes.
Reliable software that can be quickly generated!
On the basis of the Schneider M340, JB Systems developed software which enables the software to be automatically generated using the engineering list supplied by Van Aalst. The right HMI screen is also generated from the PLC code by making use of “typicals”.
